They also get out and about with shopping trips, lunch outings and excursions. They have visited unique destinations like the Titanic exhibit at the Brucemore Mansion and Blooms Garden Center Nursery and Gift Shop in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Anywhere from 15 to nearly 50 residents participate in events.
Benefits of Community Activities
Denise, the life enrichment director at the community, says residents respond to events with words of thanks, applause and lots of hugs. And, residents keep participating.
“The activities become routine; they look forward to the next,” Denise says. “Some will wait for a length of time just to make sure they do not miss out.”
Denise believes activities enrich residents’ lives.
“Having activities gives them something to look forward to and to fill their days, social interaction and a place to tell their story.”
Residents enjoy staying active together in fitness and movement classes, outings and gatherings. Bubbles in a fitness class bring joy. Casual bowling with a coconut and pineapple brought laughs to this group. Patio dining is refreshing!
